The successful hosting of the Miss South Africa 2024 pageant showcases South Africa’s resilience and enduring spirit, according to Joe McGluwa, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts, and Culture.
McGluwa extended his congratulations to this year’s winner, 28-year-old Mia le Roux, praising her as a worthy cultural ambassador for the country as she prepares to represent South Africa in global competitions like Miss Universe 2024.
“We believe Mia will be an exemplary role model and an outstanding ambassador for nation-building among all South Africans. Her achievement has made not only the people of the Free State and Western Cape proud but has also uplifted the entire nation.
“Her victory should be seen as a celebration of our heritage, diversity, and the ongoing transformation that underpins social cohesion in South Africa.
“We hope her success inspires other young South Africans to pursue their dreams, undeterred by the challenges they face or their backgrounds,” McGluwa added.
Mia le Roux, who is also a marketing manager and BCom marketing student, was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one. Born in Sasolburg in the Free State, she now resides in Cape Town.
However, the Miss SA pageant faced controversy last week when contestant Chidimma Adetshina withdrew from the competition. This followed an investigation by the Department of Home Affairs, which found that her mother may have committed identity theft to secure South African citizenship for her as a newborn.
