The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has announced the closure of the M1 and M2 highways in Braamfontein and the Johannesburg CBD due to ongoing mass action related to a wage dispute.
BREAKING NEWS: 13:30
Motorists are being cautioned about potential road closures in the Braamfontein Precinct, including the M1 and M2 highways, on August 22.
JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla confirmed that City employees affiliated with the South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) are currently engaged in negotiations with City leadership over wage disputes.
Fihla warned that if their demands are not met, there is a possibility that they will block key routes in the Johannesburg Inner City, including streets in Braamfontein as well as the M1 and M2 highways.
Law enforcement agencies are on high alert, with officers deployed to maintain public safety and manage any disruptions.
Motorists are advised to remain cautious, stay updated on traffic conditions, and consider alternative routes to avoid potential delays.
